Discussion forum is web based application available on Internetfor holding discussions. Unlike chats, it provides a synchronous communication options to it's users. Discussion forums are also referred to as discussion boards, bulletin boards or simply forums.

The importance of discussion forum in learning is detailed below :

>Discussion forum is the faster, cheapest and most effective way of promotion or sending the information to a group of people. One can send messages to all those who are using the forum, so that information reaches immediately.

>Teacherand students can have a forum based on their subject matter and the teacher can assess the participation of the students in the discussion forum.

>Forums allow instructorand students isdiscusstopicasynchronously.So,theinstructorandparticipantstudentsmust not be on-lineat the same time.

>May provide an atmosphere in which students may feel more comfortable responding than they do in a face to face class.

>Studenthave got more time to reflect and summarize before posing a discussion on the forum.

>Allow more students to participate in course discussion than would be possible in a traditional discussion setting.

>Requires all students to respond and thus the teacher can ensure the participation of all students. It is not must accountable in a face to face class.
